7/8 + 2017

To be honest, I don't think I can adequately describe this year or semester.
Both have been..well, a lot.

At times, it felt like the news had nothing else to report besides another shooting, natural disaster or even more death
I wanted to ask why there was so much evil in this world and why can't we do anything to stop it
But then I remembered there is light, pushing its way out of the darkness..
And there have been good moments, even if it felt like I had to fight for them sometimes.

This year, I:
finished my junior year of college
landed a summer internship
fell (even more) in love with Broadway
gained confidence in myself
started my senior year of college
read more books than I could count
became more intentional about living away from screens
traveled to places I'd never been before
and fell in love with the city that never sleeps.

It's been 3 years since I wrote this post about finishing my first semester of college and now I'm about to start my last. WOW. This year's been very different with highs and lows, but that's life, I guess. I am very excited to welcome 2018 with open arms and enjoy each day.

Graduation will be here before I know it, so I'm going to try and enjoy every single moment over the next 4 months. I want to be present for this last semester of my college career. I can't wait to see what the future holds, even though there is so much uncertainty. Before I know it, I'll be living a totally different life, and it's scary. I have no idea where I'll be or what I'll be doing, but I know it's going to be okay.

To end this year, I'll leave you with a quote from my favorite musical, Dear Evan Hansen.
Because today at least you're you, and that's enough.

#goals

I can't believe that I'm just a few days short of a month until I move back into a dorm! What?! I can't believe I'm about to start my junior (!!!) year of college! Now that I'm officially an "upperclassman", I feel like I have so much more responsibility to myself and my fellow students. I'm so excited to begin this year, and start making some awesome memories.
I've learned so much in the past two years, and yet I still have so much to learn :)

A few of my goals for this year include:
+Maintaining my current GPA
I know I keep saying this, but I'm in a major I love and enjoy learning more about, and my grades have definitely reflected that. Even though my classes are becoming increasingly more difficult, I hope I can keep my current GPA and maybe even boost it :)
+Study material more thoroughly
Here's an area where I definitely have room to improve. I hate reading the required text, but it's definitely necessary in order to understand the material covered in my classes. I hope to set aside more time to study.
+Spend more time IRL than online
I blogged 3x a week during the first semester of my sophomore year, but it took a lot of time and energy that I could have devoted to something else. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't something I was extremely passionate about. I would like to become even more involved on campus, so I'm going to try and spend more time offline this year. I became even more aware of the fact that I spend way too much time online this summer, so I'm hoping to cut back on that amount.
+Be kinder than necessary
School's tough, and in general the world is, so with that in mind, it's nice to see a smiling face or talk to a friendly person. I hope I can be that someone to others :)
+Eat healthier + exercise more
I've been on somewhat of a healthy kick (more than usual), so I hope I can keep it up when I go back to school. Also, I hope I can make and keep an exercise routine as soon as school begins!

P.S. The above photo isn't the school I go to. It's Texas A&M (my cousin's school)!

Have a great Tuesday :)

Exciting Stuff, You Guys!

OHMYGOSH
I cannot wait to share more, but right now, I'm still trying to completely wrap my head around it all :)
I'm a SWL Campus Rep, and I couldn't be more excited! I was eating dinner and studying last night, when I decided to check my e-mail, because I'm one of those weird people who has to check their email every 5 minutes (and I hadn't looked at my email in an hour or so which was suprising!), when I saw the So Worth Loving email (!!!) SO. WORTH. LOVING. My favorite company had emailed me to say that they had accepted me to their Campus Representatives program!
After I read the first few lines of the email, I completely freaked out. This is a dream come true.
I cannot wait to start planning events and get to know more of the student body at my school :) After a tough week at school, this e-mail lifted my spirits! I'll keep you guys updated. Until then, thank you so much for your love and support :)

Studying Tips From A College Student

Studying. The word itself is student and dying combined..
Anyway, today I received two assignments back and I couldn't be happier with my grades!
And..-drum roll please- it's all thanks to studying!
I hate studying as much as the next person, but it's something that is necessary in order to succeed at college. The problem is I never really learned how to study! I've had to figure out this "studying" thing on my own, and I've definitely learned what does and doesn't work the hard way aka almost failing a class. I hope a few of these tips will help you when you're trying to study :)

Turn your phone on silent, not vibrate.
Silent and/or all sounds off are the best possible options for your phone when you're trying to study.
It's tempting to want to text back your friends or check social media if it keeps vibrating or ringing during your study sessions.

Take study breaks.
Referring back to the previous point, if you want to text your friend back or check Instagram, do it! But only look at your phone at the specific times you've decided on beforehand.

Figure out if you can study with music or not.
I can work on math problems and listen to music, but I can't focus on science or write a paper when music's playing at the same time. Understand when you can and can't study with music.

Stretch.
Get up and move around every now and then!

Make flashcards (if you need them).
I've realized that this is a great way for me to study, so I'm trying to do this more often!

Don't study on your bed (unless absolutely necessary).
My friends fall asleep while studying on their bed all the time, so that's why I added this one, even though I study on my bed most of the time..but anyway, do what I say and not what I do..haha :)

Don't eat and study at the same time.
I know you probably never would have thought you'd hear me say that, but I've tried to eat and study simultaneously on multiple occasions, and it doesn't work.

Study in a room with lots of light (or outside!)
If you can manage to study outside and not get distracted, then go for it! I love studying outside with the fresh air and sunshine :)
I go to a beautiful school and studying outside is one of the many privileges that go along with this campus in the first few weeks in the fall and last couple of weeks in the spring :)
If it's too cold or too hot, study inside, but in a room full of light. If it's too dark, it will make you want to fall asleep!

Try to get a good night of sleep the night before.
Even though it's "only" studying and not the actual test, it's still very necessary to be alert and ready to study! Sometimes just getting "in the mood" for studying has a lot to do with sleep the night before.

What helps you study?
Good luck and happy studying (if that's even a thing!) :)
P.S. Good grades make studying totally worth it!

Don'tcha Wish You Had A Roommate Like Mine

Happy early birthday, roomie! I know your birthday isn't until this weekend, but I wanted a (valid) excuse to talk about you on the blog :)

Here's a list of reasons why you're awesome..
You understand my love of food and will happily give me your leftovers.
You catch my references to movies/TV shows/whatever..even when I'm failing miserably.
You help me decide between flats and Keds when I'm getting ready for the day.
You sing along with me to Les Mis late at night while standing on the chairs that tip over, just because you don't want me to procrastinate..alone :)
Thank you for loving me when I'm not lovable. Thank you for forgiving me when I'm in a bad mood. Thank you for watching movies and tv shows with me when I'm sick and/or on my birthday.
I am so thankful for you! I couldn't ask for a better roommate :)
You get me and for that, I'm forever grateful. I couldn't do college without you.
So thank you for laughing at my jokes, loving Downton Abbey and fangirling over Disney with me as well as appreciating my never-ending craving for pizza.
Love you! :)
Thinking back to a few summers ago when I met you on our university's Facebook page (yay technology!), it's so funny that pizza was (and still is) the basis of our friendship.
And, thanks for being the Chandler to my Joey.
Happy early birthday again :)

I've Got (Major) Problems

Calling all freshman and/or other college students who've recently switched majors + anyone else who wants to read what's been going on in my life lately.. first, this is going to kinda be like a diary entry, so if you want to be nosy (just kidding, obviously I'm sharing this with the world), read on! I really like my major (now). Way more than my previous one. And I'm really glad I switched. But I didn't think so at first. Never assume a class you're in is going to be boring or you won't like it, because chances are you haven't even given it a chance. (Life lesson learned!) Today will be the third time I've gone to my T/R (Tuesday/Thursday) classes, and tomorrow will be the fifth time I've gone to my M/W/F (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) classes. I think that after about a week of classes you can decide for yourself what classes interest you the most, if you like your major and what your goals are for the semester/year.

I've been looking forward to Fall 2015 since about March of this year. About 95% of it had to do with the fact that I was switching majors. I liked various aspects of my previous major, but I really think that my new major, Marketing, will be so much more useful for the career I want to pursue (which to be honest, I still have no idea what I want to do). I'm looking forward to all the opportunities/possibilities that a degree in marketing will open up for me in the future. I think that a degree in this field will be much more applicable (for me) than a communication degree would have been.

I decided to jump right into my new major in the College of Business and take 3 business classes -- marketing, accounting, and economics. Those classes cover a variety of important topics in the business world. They're all so different, but each of them relate in some way or another and are also required classes for my degree. The first day of class, I went in with a positive mindset, but came out a little discouraged. I had no idea what these classes would be like, so when I finished my first day as a business major, I was feeling a little confused. Accounting and economics weren't anything like what I was expecting. After the first day, I thought I wouldn't like accounting or economics, but those are actually two of the most interesting classes I'm taking this semester, and I'm learning a lot.

Of course, since I switched my major to business, everything I'm learning is brand new to me, but I'm embracing it all and I haven't looked back. I thought I had problems with my major, and I guess last year I did, but this year, my major solved (almost) all my problems, and I'm so thankful for all I've learned that has helped me get to the place where I am now. So far I'm loving this semester, and I'm really excited to see where the rest of this semester and sophomore year takes me.

To help me not stress and freak out over my new major, what I need to do to in order to succeed is stay organized and keep up with my assignments. I'm trying to plan out my schedule, use my agenda more, blog a little (I'm probably not going to devote as much time to this blog as I want..), try to have more of a social life than I did last year (working on my goal to not watch as much Netflix and so far that's going well!), and of course, study more + earn good grades! Wish me luck! :)

What's the point of college if you don't take a study break to eat Brownie Batter Oreos? They absolutely live up to the hype! SO good!

Have a great Thursday!
Check back tomorrow for Friday Favorites :)

Dorm Details

Hey! It didn't take me a whole year to publish a dorm post this time!
I really like how my roommate and I decorated our dorm this year :)
It's the perfect combination of last year's dorm and this year's.. it shows just how much we've grown in a year!
This year was less stressful and for that, we were super thankful. We had to do way less packing/getting ready, because both my roommate and I had about everything we needed. We kept a lot of the same items we used last year, and found new ways to rearrange/use them this year in the dorm :)

I bought my comforter from Sears, received these plastic bins from my cousin to use for clothes storage, and bought my bookbag from either Ross or T.J.Maxx (I can never remember).

The hamper you see in the picture is the one my roommate and I use (bought from T.J.Maxx, I think). What makes it unique is that it is a dual hamper so there are two sides and we each use one side so our clothes won't get mixed up. It's very helpful on laundry days! I also use the drawers (you can barely see them pictured on the far right) for additional clothes storage. They are provided by the school I attend.

Bowl: Anthropologie

Q&A 5 Year Journal
Downton Abbey calendar and DVDs

I have a bookshelf/side table-ish thing beside my bed which holds this bowl (first picture) and these items (bottom shelf=above photo).

I put this magnet on my fridge, because I promised my friend I would put it somewhere in my dorm, and I love it! I think it's adorable and I love seeing it each morning.

I love this trashcan my roommate and I found at T.J.Maxx last summer!

My closet's divided into two sections and so the right section (pictured above) holds my dresses.
Pictured below is a hanging organizer I bought at Target which holds some of my shoes and other various items.
I use the top shelf and the space below (on each side) for additional storage.

Hanging storage: Target
Shoes (from top to bottom, clockwise): Nike, Off Broadway Shoes, Rack Room Shoes

Lotion + Body Mist: Bath & Body Works

Storage container: K-Mart

Hope you enjoyed my dorm!
Have an awesome Tuesday! :)

Staying Healthy: Mentally & Physically (College Edition!)

It's day 3 of college and I'm already starting to form good habits for this year! YAY! :)
Staying healthy in college is very important! It's important to stay active and eat foods that are good for you.

1. Eat colorfully.
Eat a variety of foods. Everything's good in moderation. You can eat that cookie if you want and not feel bad about it, but also fill your plate with fruits and veggies. Choose to put healthy snack options in your dorm! SO important! I went grocery shopping with my roommate yesterday, and we bought foods we actually needed instead of junk food. Even though we spent a lot of money, we bought food we'll feel good about eating! Foods such as yogurt, cereal, fruit (I hate that fruit's so expensive!) are foods that are good for you and will leave you feeling full.

2. Move!
Decide to make exercise a priority and incorporate it into your daily schedule.
Even if you don't decide to use the gym on campus, there are many YouTube videos dedicated to home workouts that you can also do in your dorm. I watch Yoga with Adriene and I'm going to try out Ballet Beautiful (I linked a video I will definitely be using!). I really like the way Adriene teaches, and I've heard great things about Ballet Beautiful (YouTube search Ballet Beautiful and a variety of exercise videos come up!).
Also, I hate studying, but it's something that's crucial to succeed in college.
When you take study breaks (which are necessary), make sure to get up and move around!

(via)

3. Find ways to de-stress.
Listening to music or watching an episode or two on Netflix are great ways for unwinding after a long day. Sometimes the best thing you can do is go to lunch with friends instead of staring at your textbook for another hour. You will find it is good for you and will make you feel more energized so when you get back to your dorm or wherever you study, you can conquer your study session!

4. Hydrate
Drink water and plenty of it. Buy a water pitcher with a filter or a reusable water bottle and refill it multiple times throughout the day. Whether you're walking across campus to classes or to the cafeteria or to visit your friends in their dorm, stay hydrated!

5. Technology
As mentioned in my last post about college, social media can be both good and bad.
Netflix is good (in moderation). But isolating yourself isn't.
Limit your scrolling through Facebook, Instagram, and/or Twitter.
Decide to go out instead of sitting in your dorm room.
Make memories (for yourself!), and if you want to post a picture or two, that's fine. But no one said that the number of pictures you post equates to how much fun you're having in college.
Sometimes the memories you have are the only thing you need. You don't need evidence to show to anyone or compare your time with theirs. Have fun with social media, but don't let it consume you.

Even though I included college in the title of this post, these tips aren't exclusively for people who are at university. Anyone can apply these tips to their own life to improve their lifestyle. Hope they help! :)
Have a great day!

Live Colorfully

This year, more than ever, I've been drawn to items of color.
I feel like no matter what it is, if it adds a pop of color, I want to buy it.
Thanks Kate Spade for the awesome inspiration you provide with your wonderful brand :)
Anyway, that's not what this post is about..I wrote another post about college -- one of my favorite things, the dorms! I'm really lucky my family's been able to pay for me to stay in the dorms. It's been so rewarding and I've had the best time. I bought (and received) a few things for the new school year, and I thought I'd share them with you!
I love these items because of how fun, bright and colorful they are :)
There are many different patterns in this picture, but they somehow work.

Agenda: Wal-Mart
Binder: Wal-Mart
Fruit snacks: Welch's
iPad cover: Wal-Mart
Laptop: Dell
Pillowcases: Sears
Sheets: Target
Storage bin: K-Mart
Towels: JCP
Tumbler: Kate Spade
Yoga mat: TJMaxx (similar)

Have an awesome Tuesday!

Lessons Learned Freshman Year

I've been thinking about writing this post for quite some time. I want to make sure that what I say here accurately reflects my freshman year experience. I am still in shock that my first year of college is over and that in just a little less than two weeks, I move back in! Freshman year was full of so many lessons, both in and out of the classroom. I learned so much about myself and the world around me. Thinking back over freshman year inspired me to write a few things I learned from my time at college (so far).

1. Healthy Relationships
Aside from what they majored in, the majority of people would say that this is the most important aspect of college. Whether it comes to friendships or dating, maintaining healthy relationships is key to enjoying your time at college. I'm thankful for the friends I made freshman year, whether it was in my "intro. group" or in the various clubs I joined.
Make sure that the people you spend time with lift you up, not drag you down. The people you "do life" with are supposed to encourage and nourish your soul.
If you have a relationship that you feel is toxic to your life, it doesn't mean you have to endure it. Take action for yourself and decide what is best for you. Surround yourself with people who embody the same values as you. You only want people who will love and support you!

2. "Freshman 15"
This does not define you! But, it's also never too early to start implementing healthy habits. I think unless you're a collegiate athlete or already have a regular routine of diet/exercise, it's hard not to gain a few pounds in your first few months at college. I gained a little bit of weight my freshman year. While it wasn't too noticeable, I realized that I needed to change my lifestyle if I wanted to look and feel my best. I started choosing healthier options in the cafeteria, made time for exercise in my schedule, and drank a lot of water! (A whole post about this topic later!)

3. Budget!
I love shopping as much as the next person, but this year, I realized just how much I actually spend!
I started keeping track of my receipts and totaling how much money I was spending on various items and found out that I spend way too much money on food and trivial items. Speaking as a college kid, you don't have a lot of money in the first place, so you definitely don't want to waste what little money you do have on things that aren't very important. Know when to spend and when to save.

4. Classes aren't just for classroom learning; it's learning about yourself.
One of the hardest lessons, but so needed.
I didn't do so great on a test for my major. I'd never made a grade like that in my life before that one. That day, I didn't know whether to be in shock or denial or what. I thought I knew the material. I thought I understood exactly what I was supposed to study, so how could I have made such a terrible grade on that test? Well, what I learned from that class (that I didn't even need once I switched majors) is that that major wasn't the right one for me. I learned I'm not perfect; I'm human and I make mistakes. I have no idea what I'm going to do for a job, and I have no idea if the major that I'm now in will ultimately decide my career later on in life. All I know is that the best will come out of a bad situation, even though I don't know what the best for me is right now.

5. It's okay to step outside of your comfort zone.
This is one of my favorite things I learned freshman year.
Last fall, on a whim, I decided to run to be part of my university's Student Government Association or SGA. I had never gotten too involved in high school, but I decided that college was going to be different. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of my college career.
I made so many new friends and didn't realize until then that I enjoyed the decision making process, budgeting, and learning and growing from the relationships that were formed in SGA.
I joined a few other clubs freshman year, but none that influenced me as much as SGA did.

6. Social Media
Don't let others intimidate you or get distracted by what others post on social media.
Let them live their lives and you live yours :)
Instagram/Twitter/Facebook are all great to interact with others, but don't use them as a comparison tool to see who is having more fun at college. Everyone's college experience is different.
Remember: social media is everyone's highlight reel. Don't compare that to your behind the scenes.

I have a few more college posts in the works -- stay tuned!
Have a great Tuesday! :)

Packing For College

Packing for college can be tricky. It's tough making decisions about clothing. Last summer, as an incoming freshman, I scoured websites and blogs looking for college packing lists. They really helped! I learned it's best not to over pack and the same goes for not packing enough. Shoutout to the kids who go to college out of state! I know that must be really wierd packing a bathing suit and shorts along with a light fall jacket. Having to pack for one season while still being in another is probably the most difficult part.

CLOTHING
Rainboots/rain jacket
Tennis shoes
Comfortable shoes (ballet flats, boots, sandals)
Jeans
Sweatpants
Sweatshirts
Shirts
Skirts
Dresses
T-shirts (don't pack too many!)
It's true you will get a lot of tshirts when you become a college kid :)

1 thing I'm sure many incoming freshman forget is an umbrella. Last year, I read that bringing an umbrella to campus is so important! Whoever wrote that was 110% right! Thank you for warning me ahead of time! I bought my Hunters and my rain jacket last summer. Best decision ever! I never thought I would use them as much as I did. Some people hate the rain, but I love it because it gives me an excuse to pull out my adorable rain gear!
SHOES! Another really important tip: wear comfy shoes!
From the dorm to class to the cafeteria then back to the dorm..I don't think I've ever walked so much in my life! Great (easy) exercise! But if you eat a lot (like me) and take advantage of the buffet style option in the cafeteria, you'll need more than just walking around campus!
That's one lesson I've learned..more on that later :)
Some say that only freshmen dress up for class, and you can spot who is who on campus by what they're wearing..I definitely didn't take that to heart. I wore what I felt most comfortable in. This is just me, but if I wear a (sorta) put together outfit, then I feel better and ready to face the day! Everyone should dress however and in whatever way they want. It all depends on your personal style.
I packed a few skirts and dresses, because there's nothing wrong with wanting to dress up a little now and then (and of course you can use them for dances if your college has them).
I'll repeat what I've said previously: Do NOT bring a bunch of tshirts. You will win/buy so many college tshirts :)

FOR THE DORM
Storage bins (that fit under the bed in order to maximize space)
Weekender (weekend road trips!)
Clorox wipes
Trash bags
Mini vacuum
Hand and dish soap
Broom
Command strips (This is the only thing my dorm allows us to use to hang pictures/posters!)
Hanging organizer (this!): super helpful!
Decorations, pictures, posters

Things you won't need:
Books
Dvds
Sports equipment

Extra info. on each:
My roommate brought about 10 books, but she didn't have time to read any of them!
I love reading, but college generally never allows enough time for you to read a whole book!
That's why I love summer, and I can tackle my reading list! :)
Movie marathons are always acceptable, but usually there's not enough space in a dorm for a bunch of dvds..so Netflix does the trick most of the time :)
Everyone has the best intention to work out and use the sports equipment they bought, but I can tell you from my own experience that you won't have as much time as you think you will to play..I will bring my yoga mat back this year, because this summer, I've realized how much I love it!

Tips:
Keep your dorm simple, but stylish.
Clean your room! That's one less thing you'll have to stress about!
After all, it is your home away from home for the next few months :)

I just uploaded all the pictures from my iPhone to my laptop..so I'll post pictures of my freshman dorm soon :)

Anything you want me to blog about?
Did I leave out anything? I probably did..I'll update the post if I remember!
Have a great Tuesday!
I'm participating in the #bloggersgetcookin link-up tomorrow :)

1/4! + Friday Favorites

And just like that..freshman year is over!
I moved out of my dorm Wednesday, and now I'm in the process of moving back into my room at home (I say process because it takes a couple of days to have the motivation to unpack your bags..).
It still feels surreal that I'm 1/4 done with my time at college.
Looking back on this year, I've been thinking to myself, did I do everything I wanted to do? Did I make the most of the time I spent on campus? And also, what can I change next year so that next summer I'll feel differently when I reminisce..
Freshman year was a crazy one, for sure. I mean, there were ups and downs, but honestly, that's life.
College is harder than I thought it was going to be. It's definitely not how Instagram and the movies portray it..juggling academics as extracurriculars and a social life was almost like a full time job. Huge shoutout to all the people who go to school and have a job. Wow. I'm super proud of you :)
Hopefully, I'll write many blog posts about my freshman year. I love being home. I have so much free time I don't even know what to do. I'm so excited to devote more time to my blog! More interesting posts coming your way!

If you're taking a study break to read this blog post, here's some links so you can waste a few more minutes..

I hope this Friday turns into a Fri-yay for you and that you have the best weekend ever! :)

Monday Makeover

Just because it happens to be a Monday does not mean it has to be a bad day.
You choose to make it whatever kind of day you want it to be. You are in charge.
Whether the events of the day are good or bad, your attitude is what is most important.

Two of my favorite quotes:

"If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely."
Roald Dahl

"Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you."
Charlotte Whitton

Today, I had no class, picked out my courses for next semester, rearranged my dorm room, ate gummy worms, procrastinated a lot, but then ended up actually doing a little work to get ready for this week..and now watching ABC Family movies :) what a great day!

Recently, I've felt that I needed a change somehow..and maybe doing what I did today is just what I needed.
Make sure you take time for yourself every now and then; let not only your body rest but your mind as well.

pink + blue

Love this color combo!

Wearing bright colors for the rest of this week to make up for the gloomy days!

These Are A Few Of My (Recent) Favorite Things

I decided to share a much shortened list of my 'Friday Favorites' this week and I hope these are things you, as readers, will enjoy also :)

1. INSURGENT
This movie came out today and it is AMAZING! Even though it's technically a sequel, it's still great! The book series is my favorite and I have been counting down the days since the last movie came out :)
(I can't find a picture, but in one scene, Theo James has a kid on his shoulders and it is just precious! One of my favorite moments in the film!)

2. Spotify
I am in love with this app, and use it on my iPad 24/7.
I listen to just about anything and make new playlists all the time!
I love being able to play Disney one second and switch to Bastille the next.
My username is 'smileshineinspire' if you want to follow and/or see what I'm listening to :)

3. TriviaCrack
Anyone else play this addicting game?!
I have it on my phone and iPad.
It's almost embarrassing how much I play..

4. Style inspiration
The always classic, effortless Sarah Vickers of Classy Girls Wear Pearls
City-chic ready outfits by Mackenzie Horan of Design Darling

5. Gilmore Girls & Friends
I am totally marathon viewing these two shows simultaneously on Netflix.
I love the comedy aspect of Friends and the drama on Gilmore Girls.
GG--Rory is me. I find so many similar qualities between her and myself.
Friends--I'm totally the Joey of the group, in that I love to eat.

6. Celebrate!
Happy international happiness day and macaron day and first day of spring :)
There's so much to celebrate!
I hope each and every one of you finds happiness in your life, even if you have to search for awhile! Don't give up; it's out there :)
I made macarons for the first time last year, and I can't wait to make more whenever I get the ingredients :) This dessert is one of my favorites!
I am excited for the style that accompanies warmer weather (even though I hardly have any spring clothing which means shopping is in my future). I'll make another post solely dedicated to spring style! :)

I hope your weekend will be amazing and restful in order to prepare you for the week ahead! I can't believe my spring break is almost over! It's almost time to go back to school and wrap up this semester and freshman year! :)

Freshman Dorm (Do's & Don'ts)

FINALLY! I apologize in advance that this might not be the dorm room post some were expecting, but I promise I'll try to do better sophomore aka this (!!!!!) year :)
I took a few photos of my freshman dorm right after Christmas break, but because my roommate and I are indecisive, we changed the setup quite a few times after that. The photos included in this post show two of the only things that actually remained the same throughout the various moving and rearranging of our furniture. Most of the photos I took are more representative of college, but aren't really "blog-worthy". I didn't have time to set up my room and make it look more presentable or worthy of a photo shoot, so I didn't include those.
I'm really sorry that this post is so late. I promise I'll have better pictures this year :)

I'm living in a "suite-style" this year, so my roommate and I will be sharing a bathroom with two other girls. There's 4 more girls living in our "suite" and they will be sharing another bathroom. We'll also share a kitchenette and a "living room". Right now, I can only guess what it'll look like because I've never even seen the place. I've only seen pictures online!

Bedding: Sears
Sheet set: Target (not pictured)
Prints: Heart&Arrow (far left and far right), So Worth Loving (middle)

My favorite color's purple, so obviously that influenced my decision for dorm bedding. My roommate and I love a good opportunity to dorm shop. Last summer, we found matching comforter sets at Sears in our favorite colors :) They are super soft, warm, and reversible! We found them on sale for about $35 each with matching shams. The only thing we needed to buy for our beds were sheet sets! I bought polka dotted ones from the kids' section at Target :) #judgeme & my roommate bought the super soft tshirt (jersey) ones that are available every year (in different colors) also at Target in their dorm section! :)

DO: Buy inexpensive, yet quality, sheet sets! I cannot count the number of times I've spilled food and/or drinks on my bed. Not having to worry about how much I paid for them was nice. The ones I bough are awesome, because they're both cheap and great quality!
DON'T: Buy expensive bedding, unless you plan on using it multiple years. Even though my bedding was on sale, I'm still reusing it, because I don't plan on finding one I like better than the one I already have, plus it saves me money!

I ordered prints off Etsy (Heart&Arrow) and found another one on sale from one of my favorite brands (SWL). I used command strips (because they're the only things we're allowed to use in the dorms!) and hung them above my bed :) This was an easy way to decorate, and it didn't cost too much money!
Also, I love how it looks :)

DO: Use command strips.
DON'T: Use things not approved by your university or college. Nobody wants to pay a fine!

Shower curtain: Wal-Mart (also comes with rings to hang it on the shower and a bath mat -- all for only $20!)
Towels: JCPenney's (left), not sure where my roommate got her towel (right)

DO: Buy at least two sets of towels/washcloths. It's easier than having to wash them constantly and it's always nice to have extra.
DON'T: Buy more things for your bathroom and/or room than you need.
The money you save instead of spend will make you happier in the long run :)

DO: Make sure you do your share of the work. If you attend a university/college that requires you to have room checks every 2 weeks or so, it's nice to only have to do a quick clean up instead of having to stress about what you need to do the day of the inspection.
DON'T: Wait around for someone to tell you to clean up. When you see that you left your dishes in the sink or your bed unmade, take action and do what needs to be done. Don't be that person who doesn't do their fair share of the chores.

Extras:
Make sure you talk to your roommate(s)/suitemates before you go shopping for dorm supplies :)
It's nice to split the cost of essentials and make sure everyone is sharing the responsibility of buying what's needed for the bathroom and/or dorm room.
Paper towels, Clorox wipes, dish soap, laundry detergent, and toilet paper are also a few things you might want to consider either bringing to college or including on the list you share with your roommate/suitemates.
These items cost more than you think!
Don't forget your quarters to use for laundry! Thankfully, my dorm allowed us to use our debit/credit cards for a wash/dry cycle!

I hope you found a couple of these tips helpful :)
Good luck!
If you are heading off to college soon (for your first time or if you're returning), I want to hear about it!
Leave a comment or contact me through any social media (icons on the right side of my blog). I can't wait to talk :)

Have a great Thursday! Friday Favorites are tomorrow, which means the weekend's only 1 day away! :)

P.S. This post was late today, because I was busy working on the blog this morning! :) Hope you like the new changes!

Final(e) Word on 'Parks and Rec'

Yesterday, the last episode of Parks and Rec aired, the last episode ever..
Gosh, I already miss that show.
I started watching it at the end of last semester and it made me laugh so much.
It helped me forget about the stress of college for awhile and just relax..
I totally marathon viewed the earlier seasons of Parks and Rec over winter break to catch up, so I could watch the last season on actual tv and I am so glad that I was able to!
I have loved this show and the people that have made it come alive. I love the characters and the running jokes. I hope that people will remember this show and re-watch episodes and continue to quote lines from it. I will keep reblogging "Treat Yo Self" gifs on Tumblr and continue to dream of a love that is part Andy/April + part Leslie/Ben :)

So..to help me not cry (as much), I've made a list to reference to if I'm ever feeling sad and missing Parks and Rec. I can look back at these links and remember the finale and how it was a wonderful way to wrap an amazing show.
Parks and Rec, you will be missed, but your fans will never let this show be forgotten..

Have a wonderful rest of today! :)
